Cantantes Licet Usque Eamus:
Together we march forward singing
During the European tour of 1921, the Harvard Glee Club took their final exams on a ship crossing the Atlantic Ocean. In 2007, some members took midterms in the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport. The message: touring means a lot to the Glee Club and its members, and we do everything we can to make sure every member can participate. The bonds and memories forged on Glee Club tours last a lifetime, and HGC is committed to the participation of every singer. Touring solidifies the brotherhood of HGC and elevates the level of our music-making; it is the lifeblood of the Glee Club experience, and it is a blast.
The Harvard Glee Club has been sharing its music with the world beyond Cambridge since the early 20th century. The famous 1921 tour of Europe (pictured below) prompted composers Darius Milhaud and Francis Poulenc to write for the Glee Club. Touring, as many members and alumni fondly recount, constitutes the core of the HGC experience: bringing our signature sound and repertoire to audiences across the globe, and thereby continuing the rich tradition of men's choral music. Annual spring tours and frequent summer tours have been the primary means by which the Glee Club has earned its international renown in the choral community.
